“What makes a man?”
What are the ways that “men” are made?
A performance group made up of men who live in Govan will spend the course of the festival visiting performances that explore gender and masculinities.
Led by Jak Soroka and Peter Lannon, the group will discuss and creatively respond to the performances to examine their different relationships to masculinity.
Who owns masculinity?
Who does it serve?
What can our different understandings of masculinity teach us?
How do we want masculinity to be in the world?
How does this differ for each of us?
This is part of research and development time for a performance project of masculinities: responding to the site of Fairfield Working Men’s Club, the legacy of working men’s clubs in Scotland and the politics of traditional “man” spaces.
