Blake Venus is a recent graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design studying Fine Art. From her Degree Show she won the RSA New Contemporaries Award in June 2016, and has exhibited work at the Scottish National Galleries in Edinburgh for the RSA New Contemporaries from February to March 2017. Venus was invited by The Collective Responsible For to organise and exhibit in a group show titled Girls Will Be Beuys in October 2016.
The artist is intrigued by societal power structures, esotericism, the uncanny and notions of the sublime. Art making is a spiritual and religious endeavour to her and the practice overall is ritualistic. This is to help her understand the key themes in her wok and life; Morality, Identity and Transformation.
Blake Venus is currently working on a solo project, Big Sky, and some exciting collaborations.
